We are pleased to provide legal assistance for obtaining the newly issued “Digital Nomad Visa” , designated non-EU nationals (professionals from the United States and elsewhere outside the EU.

As of March 2024, qualified professionals from outside the European Union will be able to reside and work remotely from Italy on a long-term visa. The visa allows professionals to live in Italy for a year while working remotely for foreign companies, and also can be renewed after one year.

This initiative aims to boost local economies and promote Italy as an ideal destination looking both to enjoy the country’s cultural offerings combined with its lower cost of life in comparison to the economies of other advanced economies. This initiative will be particularly inviting for aspiring remote workers from the United States, who have previously faced steep bars of entry into procuring a work visa in the country.

Workers earning US-based salaries have the possibility of taking advantage of “salary arbitrage”, in which their income level affords a better standard of living in respect to certain regions in the United States.

To qualify for the digital nomad visa in Italy, applicants must meet specific requirements, including:

  • Proof of employment with a company based outside of Italy or proof of self-employment with clients predominantly outside of Italy.

  • A minimum income requirement typically around €30,000 per year.

  • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the stay in Italy.

  • A signed declaration of commitment to conduct only remote work for non-Italian clients during the stay.

  • A rental contract or proof of accommodation in Italy.

  • Clean criminal record.

If you are interested in applying for a digital nomad visa, we can help you process an application via the procurement and correct filing of the necessary documents at the correct Consulate offices in the US and in Italy. We also can help you set up your tax number (codice fiscale) and other necessary services during your stay, such as reviewing and affixing rental contracts and gaining a health insurance and identity card.
